Random things about my adventures/life in SA:
. I'm living with a team of 12 from University of Delaware. They're all college-age and really awesome.
. Others in the house:
Chris- from London. a lovely lady, probably in her 50s, a Community Minister in London, was given a 3 month sabbatical, raised money to travel to Living Hope for 1 month of that sabbatical, working with Living Grace (Homeless ministry and Addiction Counseling), drinks tea with every meal, love her accent, the sweetest person in the house!
Nicole- from Alberta, Canada. 18 years old, took a year off after high school graduation, came to Living Hope as part of that year, will be here for 1 month and then go to another part of Africa for another ministry experience. Working at the Masi Preschool during the day. Very sweet, very innocent.
Amy- my room mate. Came on the University of Delaware college team last year, graduated in May, temp jobs for a few months until she could get to SA, staying 6 months, soccer fanatic, graduated with a fashion design degree but doesn't want to be in the fashion industry, loves to run, still can't sleep through the night (and she's been here almost 2 weeks). Working
Ronnie- friends with and traveled here with Amy. Current student at University of Delaware, here for 6 months with Amy… they're not dating. Very aware of fashion, loves Taylor Swift and Jack Johnson, working in the Prevention Building Resource Center and in Capricorn Kids Club. Communications major, will be giving Health Care Clinic workers training in Communication Skills.
. Found out that my friend Kumie (lady that makes the bags, started her own business, AIDS patient, was in hospital when I saw her in June '09) … died over Christmas break. It was such a shock to me; I was so excited about seeing her, seeing how she was doing, having quality time with her again, but now I'm grieving her death. I'm learning that life is really fragile in South Africa.
. Pick n' Pay is just like WalMart. You can find ANYTHING in that store. No wonder Maggie talks about Pick n' Pay so much.
. Haven't seen Maggie yet. I don't have her number yet and haven't been in ministry locations where she'd be. I've GOT to see her soon.
. In the market for a 'sun hat.' Shagmie and Lauren's wedding is on the beach and all the ladies will be wearing a sun hat. Shagmie told me I had to wear a sun dress too; good thing I packed one! Thought that casual, classy dress would come in handy sometime! I'll have to post pictures of that ensemble when I get it all together. The wedding is 27th of Feb.
