Faith Debates. Active thinking and listening. Challenging our Youth to know what they believe! |
Our Youth Ministry is growing in depth. With the extra eyes and fresh perspective from our American Interns, they're helping us celebrate fruit and growth that we've recently overlooked. Our measuring stick is based on Matthew 28:18-20 (The Great Commission) and Mark 12:29-31 (The Great Commandment); we ask ourselves, are the youth loving God and loving people? Have we grown in our relationships here on earth and in heaven?
Well, last week in Friday Night Youth, we saw the growth! We saw our students speak to each other about their week, their highs and lows in their life and we also saw them critically think and challenge each other with spiritual perspectives. We held a Faith Debate (shown above). Meagan threw out hot-topics and each team debated a side (whether that was their opinion or not). We saw them think about what's going on in the world - debating issues like divorce, homosexuality among Christians, and Believers dating non-Christians. They presented relevant arguments and challenged each other to think! Our panel (Interns) ended each debate topic with scriptures stating what God says about the controversial topic. It was quite interesting to hear our youth chat like adults and get defensive about their view-points.
We'll continue this debate this week and challenge them to keep digging in scripture to find out what God has to say to us today!
Please pray for this group of young people. We're in need of transitioning them to the next level of their faith. We hope to get them "on mission" and in a more self-less, service mindset. Looking forward to the coming months!

NOTE:
Let me again say, SORRY for being slow in blog-updates. I appreciate you following what's going on here in South Africa. I don't take your interest for granted. I'll send a newsletter update as soon as our Interns leave in the next 2 weeks. Life has been crazy-busy with them by my side. There's lots to tell but not a lot of time to tell it. So, stay tuned. Big update ahead!
