gherkin: is a term generally used to refer to a savoury pickled cucumber, particularly in the UK and Europe. ... They are usually picked when 4 to 8 cm (1 to 3 in) in length and pickled in jars or cans with vinegar (often flavored with herbs, particularly dill; hence, "dill pickle") or brine.

.................................................
Many of you knew and were fond of my dog, Pickles. Upon moving to South Africa, I had to give her to the care of my grandparents (which has been a great thing for Pickles)!
Because of some of the challenges of working in Capricorn, our home needed a little joy and welcomed distraction from a lot of the hard things we deal with each day. On 11 March 2013, we welcomed a 6 week old Dachshund puppy, cleverly named Gherkin ... the South African name for "pickles." She's been a joy so far. Yes, it's like tending to a new baby, but the adventure has been fun! I'm sure you'll see lots more of her in the coming blogs as she becomes part of the family.
