We have mountains, amazing flowers and lots of unique wildlife. No, there are not roaming lions and elephants where I live in Cape Town; however, there are lots of lizards, frogs, seals, whales, sharks. Cape Town, specifically Muizenberg where I live is a beach-town ... lots of waves crashing in the distance, sand flying as the wind blows, and salt in the air.
Yes we have shark attacks. Hence why you won't find me farther than my knees in the ocean. Here's a report of our latest Shark Attack in Muizenberg: http://sharkspotters.org.za/shark-attack-incident-report-muizenberg-1-august-2014. Cape Town has very special terrain. You can be facing a huge mountain and turn 180 degrees and face the ocean. One visitor once commented, "I know why South Africa is so naturally beautiful. The desperate situations of the people need a God-given outlet in nature!" She then encouraged me to look around and praise the Lord for His creation when life and work in the township gets hard.
Here are some pictures of a few of my favorite things about South African nature:

Penguins! Boulders Beach is a natural habitat of African Penguins. How cool is that!? http://www.bouldersbeachlodge.com/ |

The Protea is the national flower. Its strong roots and stem allow it to survive and thrive in the Cape Town wind. It blooms into a beautiful bloom with a thick pit. Read more about our natural flower here: http://www.southafrica-newyork.net/consulate/protea.html |

The Leopard Toad, our endangered species. This one my friend and I found in her kitchen. We quickly scooped him up and put him in the garden. Read more about this amazing, scarce toad here: Cape Town Environmental Resource Management |

This is an example of the caution signs all around our community - which is a breeding ground for this endangered species. |
