Jr. Youth on Mission

I'm so proud of my Sunday School class of Jr. Youth (ages 11-13). They've been together as an official teaching-group for 2 years now ... thanks to my friend Joanie from SMBC who encouraged me to teach and invest in this age group. They've learned the main stories and concepts in the Old and New Testaments over this 2 years and have a foundation in the Bible that not many in our community have! I'm so proud of them and excited to see what God does in their generation!

A few weeks ago, they went on mission ... right in their own church! They helped the "little Sunday School" learn about hygiene and taking care of their body. This is a lesson that's so very important in our context. You might think, "why teach about this in church" but the answer is simple ... where else will they learn it? Their home lives aren't so stable and we don't want to take for granted that they're being taught basic skills. So, about once every 3-4 months, the little Sunday School might have a Life Skills lesson to complement the Bible stories they teach!

This specific week, they learned about washing their hands and the germs that live around them, how/when to brush their teeth, and how/when to wash their bodies. Sadly, many of our children are often sick because of lack of cleanliness. They also have lots of trouble with their teeth because of the inadequate diet, improper care, and little access to dentists. Many rather pull their adult teeth (even at a young age) and get fit for dentures than take proper care of their natural teeth.

Pray for our church and their ministry to the children and youth of our community. In Capricorn, ministry isn't just about sharing the Bible stories, but it's also about teaching how to care for all aspects of a person's life! After all, God created us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually!

Here are my Jr. Youth serving the young children in our congregation:
