Here's another short report of my little Jr. Youth class on Sunday mornings ...
Our last session in our 2 years through the Bible series was on Paul and his role in church-planting, being a missionary, writing letters, instructing and encouraging. These youth loved thinking about the concept of a normal guy traveling to visit churches and also writing the churches letters when he couldn't travel. They were amazed to know that many of the books of the Bible that they've studied this year (in the New Testament) were written by this very man, inspired by God!
One of my favorite lessons this month was when I taught the Jr. Youth about the 100 largest unreached people groups and showed them their statistics and information about the regions. I also took names of my friends who are on the mission-field (countries abroad and in America), and taught them to pray for missionaries doing work just like Paul did in the Bible! I printed out articles about unreached people groups, scriptures on things to pray for missionaries, and lists of things that can be struggles for those working in hard, foreign regions. Some of those articles are sited and linked below. It was neat to watch these youth learn and widen their perspective on what missions is. They also connected the thought that many of my friends from America (Shades Mountain Baptist Church) were missionaries (and Paul-like) to our church here in South Africa. Many of the short-term visitors from SMBC have written letters of encouragement to me or our church. This is the very thing Paul did - he wrote to churches he visited! My youth totally got that concept and have experienced it themselves!
This partnership for the Gospel between churches so far away is coming alive and making a Gospel-example to my children! I'm so thankful for my friends who continue to invest in this church in Capricorn.
