what I love about my work ...

This is what I love about my work in South Africa:

  • the moment children recognize you in the streets of the community, a huge smile ensues and a shout of your name is a welcome like no other!
  • when children are in my art class creating beautiful work, discovering paint, uncovering their own potential
  • when I bake an American recipe at home and bring the goodies to our Art staff meetings … treating people and bringing conversation unites people and makes them feel special!
  • connecting with other people working in Capricorn - hearing their passion for my people and the desire for change!
  • when my youth ask if they can come study at my house … knowing they’re taking their education seriously, seeking a quiet place to study, and the fact that they see our relationship as one that encourages their growth!
  • watching my roommate, Meagan, study and learn and succeed in Seminary!
  • the opportunity to share the Gospel and plan of Salvation with my Sunday School class.
  • teaching children and youth how to read the Bible
  • having people stop me in the street for a hug and a listening ear … people grab me and say, “please pray for/that _______” What an honor!
  • learning to work with people from multiple cultures - gaining knowledge of how others do things and sharing cultural differences.

Life here can be a roller-coaster. Living overseas is not easy, but when I focus on the joys of the small things and the large opportunities to share my faith, it's all worth it!

Pray with me as I continue to walk through the doors that God opens!
